"Whatever is in me is stronger than what is out there to defeat me "- Caroline Myss

In the process of counseling and therapy , A therapist is a part of a client's emotional and psychological journey. They are tasked to be good listeners , active participants but at the same time make their clients independent in their decision making.

For a therapist it's necessary for them to be confident in their skills , potential and knowledge. They need to constantly upskill themselves and strengthen with each difficult case they come across and not become overwhelmed. Investing time and putting in efforts for reinvention is important for every new and experienced therapist.

This will in turn help the clients find new and creative ways to keep strengthening themselves in the course of their therapeutic journey.

When it comes to clients -Resilience is one core strength which in my point of view is a very important strength to cultivate and keep active throughout. The main objective is to build a level of resilience with which the client feels in control , empowered and ready to take on lifes challenges with grace and humility.

One way to help clients develop resilience is by helping them find meaning and purpose in difficult situations. Resilient individuals are capable of reframing obstacles as opportunities for growth and development which in turns help them maintain a positive outlook, even in the face of adversities.

There will be times when both the client and the therapist feel the pressures of life , have certain negative events happen around them , become a victim to natural disasters or even suffer through an illness. It's at these times to have a very mindful approach, have clear and transparent communication and have the awareness to take a pause when it gets too much.

Taking that pause as a therapist should not be viewed with a guilty lense but with a lot of courage. Knowing one's boundaries and recovering from them is also a sign of a good therapist.

In conclusion, resilience is a trait which therapists should keep working on with themselves and also help their clients reach a level of resilience which they can tap into when life throws all sorts of curveballs at them.
