EMBRACING AUTHENTICITY: THE POWER OF BEING YOURSELF

WHAT DOES IT MEAN BY ‘BEING YOURSELF’?
In today’s world, where there is tremendous pressure of adjusting or fitting into some predefined norms, being yourself can be truly liberating. Being yourself doesn’t mean you are being selfish or not having empathy, it means you accept yourself irrespective of other people’s opinions. You can’t control others’ thoughts or perceptions, so worrying about what they think of you is futile.
HOW TO BE YOURSELF?
Reflect on your past: Your past experiences have made you what you are today, but they don’t define your future. Learn from the lessons of your past and use them to grow and move forward.
Prioritize quality time: Regularly invest time in activities that bring you joy and help you reconnect with your true self. Whether it’s journaling, music, crafting, or exercise; find what resonates with you.
Embrace your emotions: Your feelings are valuable messengers. Pay attention to them even the difficult ones, as they carry important messages and insights that can guide you.
Challenge negative self-talk: Your inner critic may always have something to say, but you don’t have to listen to or follow its advice. Catch negative self-talk and question its validity. Don’t let it overshadow who you truly are.
Don’t depend on external validation: Looking for validation from others is temporary, it doesn’t boost your self-worth. Instead, focus on validating yourself from within. Look inward for acceptance and avoid depending on others for validation.
Put forward your opinion: Express yourself authentically without overthinking or censoring your thoughts. Start with trusted individuals and gradually build the confidence to share your thoughts openly.
Trust yourself: While seeking advice can be beneficial sometimes, learn to trust yourself. Embrace your ability to make independent decisions.
Find company of like-minded people: Seek out communities and groups that share your interests and values. Connecting with like-minded individuals fosters a sense of belonging and acceptance allowing you to be true to yourself.
Being true to yourself is an ongoing journey of self-discovery and growth. Embrace your uniqueness, practice self-compassion, and strive to live a life aligned with your values and aspirations.
